Joyce Hornor

Born in Fort Lauderdale, FL, Joyce discovered her artistic talent early in life. Married and starting a family, she applied her natural artistic ability to painting murals in her family's nursery and working with ceramics.

After moving to Gainesville, GA in 1981, Joyce decided to seek formal instruction and worked under local watercolorist Cecil Neal and attended workshops with Edina Sagert. After much experimentation and exploration, she decided to pursue an in-depth course of studio work in oil painting which she took from Atlanta artist Chris DiDomezio. During 4 years of intense work with Chris, she also attended various workshops by David Leffel, Dee Beard Dean, Marc Chatov and Scott Burdick to allow her to study many different styles and techniques of oil painting.

At this point in her career, she decided that her true passion was for still life. After attending several workshops with renowned artist Roseta Santiago of Santa Fe, NM, Joyce was influenced by Roseta's unique style. Joyce's paintings now express her fascination with the effect light has on the display of inanimate objects dramatized by her trademark black backgrounds.

Joyce began exhibiting her work at the Quinlan Visual Arts Center and various local auctions. She is represented by Gallerie 110 in Gainesville, GA.
